A Journey Rooted in Art
Deethi’s relationship with art began in her school days, where she actively participated in dramas, mono acts, and plays. She often sang as part of her theatre troupe, which combined acting, singing, and dancing. These early experiences shaped her identity as a performing artist, someone who effortlessly merges multiple art forms.
She believes that her passion for music grew from a deep desire to narrate her stories to the world. According to her, art—whether in the form of painting, dance, music, or acting—possesses the unique ability to convey meaningful stories. "That’s the strength of the visual medium," she says.
"It’s this perspective that drives my passion and allows me to keep creating"
Deethi observes that people often consider painting and dance as mere hobbies. However, she regards art as a fundamental outlet for expressing thoughts, calling it an essential part of life.
The Story Behind "Enguthan Poveno"
"Enguthan Poveno" is not just a song but a philosophical exploration. Deethi explains that the prologue, which encapsulates the song’s essence, was not part of the initial plan. When extending the track for audio platforms, they brainstormed ways to add depth and decided to include a succinct introduction that highlights its inner meaning.
The song itself poses a profound question: Why do we need something to believe in to live? Deethi reflects on how societal constructs like religion and community were created to give life meaning. However, she wonders whether one can find fulfillment in life’s beauty, emotions, and mundane moments without societal pressures or moral influences.
"The song’s title, 'Enguthan Poveno,' captures this existential inquiry. From birth, we know our ultimate destination is death. But between life and death, societal pressures push us to conform—to become a doctor, engineer, or lawyer. My song questions how one might live authentically, free from these constraints."
Art Beyond Trends
Deethi strongly believes that art should remain an authentic expression rather than a commercial product. She consciously avoided creating "Enguthan Poveno" with the intent to please or impact listeners. In her view, contemporary art has become commodified, often prioritizing trends over genuine expression.
"If I worry about praise or fame, my true thoughts might lose their flame. Art should stay raw, real, and free—Not a product, but pure honesty.”
To her, art is deeply subjective, a personal perspective that may differ for everyone.
The Collaboration and Sound
Deethi credits Arun Vallalar for the song’s retro sound, as he mixed and mastered the track. She emphasizes that the song was a collaborative effort with Arun and cinematographer Pavel, who brought their unique talents to the project.
"I had the baseline and lyrics, but Arun crafted the beautiful soundscape that gave the song its unique identity," she shares. She describes herself as the assembler, the one who brought together these amazing artists to create something special.
The Dreamy Underwater Visuals
The song’s music video features stunning underwater sequences, an idea born from a brainstorming session between Deethi, Arun, and Pavel. Pavel, a scuba instructor and underwater cinematographer, has collaborated with Deethi. This time, they wanted to capture a dreamy, surreal aesthetic for the video. Deethi recounts how the concept evolved organically:
"We didn’t have a fixed plan. As we filmed underwater and saw the footage during editing, new ideas emerged. Initially, it was only underwater scenes, but as the song’s duration was extended, we added more layers to the visuals. It was all very impromptu."
The Creative Process
For Deethi, the creative process often begins with a simple tune, idea, or word that she notes down for later reference. She mentions having a list of around 30 unfinished tunes that she hopes to complete someday.
She speaks highly of Arun Vallalar, praising his versatility and creativity. Their brainstorming sessions were filled with ideas that shaped the song and its visual representation.
Through "Enguthan Poveno," Deethi delivers a heartfelt and thought-provoking work of art. The song, enriched by sincere collaborations and authentic storytelling, transcends mere music to become a profound expression of life’s intricacies.
